BOSTON, Mass. – Sophomore Kiera Lindmark's (Norfolk, Mass.) goal early in the second half held up as the game winner as the Curry College women's soccer team held on to defeat Wentworth Institute of Technology, 2-1, in Commonwealth Coast Conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The teams traded shots on net in the early going and graduate student Diana Bruggeman (Natick, Mass.) put a shot just to the right of the mark in the 11th minute.
  • Senior Erica Blanch (Danvers, Mass.) gave Curry a 1-0 lead when she scored at 11:44. Graduate student Samantha Borges (Somerset, Mass.) fed Blanch a pass in the center of the field. Blanch took a shot from 35 yards out that found the back of the net.
  • Wentworth applied pressure throughout the remainder of the half and held a 7-5 shot advantage at the half but were unable to net the equalizer.
  • At the 48:09 mark, Borges took a shot that nicked the post where Lindmark collected the rebound and gave the Colonels a 2-0 lead. Bruggeman put a shot on net for the Leopards in the 56th minute, which was saved by sophomore Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.).
  • The hosts pulled within one at the 56:54 mark when freshman Lina Arlander (Sjketten, Norway) scored her first collegiate goal. Senior Madison Wolf (Falmouth, Maine) fed Arlander with a pass along the left side. Arlander made a run and put a shot in from across the box.
  • Wentworth nearly tied the game with 30 seconds left when Bruggeman put a shot on net that Correa made a save on.
  • Junior Adriana Arona (Westfield, Mass.) played the first 45 minutes for Wentworth, making two saves. Sophomore Julianna Heaton (Swansea, Mass.) played the final 45 minutes, making a save. Wentworth had an 18-8 shot advantage with Bruggeman taking 12 of those shots.

THE SERIES:

  • Today was the 26th all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth leads, 17-7-2.
