Saints Overtake Leopards in Local Matchup

BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel Women's Volleyball Team cruised to a 3-set sweep of the visiting Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology on Tuesday night in non-conference action played in the Jean Yawkey Center. The Saints powered past the Leopards, 25-14, 25-18, 25-15, to come away with the 3-0 win. The victory for Emmanuel brings the Saints to 2-3 overall, while the Leopards drop to 2-7 on the season.

 

Emmanuel's offense was led by sophomore Rebecca Stanton's (Quincy, Mass.) 8 kills. Hitters Jenna Ross (Centerburg, Ohio) and Samatha Andazola (Queen Creek, Ariz.) notched 5 kills apiece. Sophomore setter Kathryne Olsen (Fairhaven, Mass.) handed out 21 assists. Emmanuel also got some strong serving from Ross and junior Megan Clary (Cumberland, R.I.), who combined for 7 services aces in the win. On defense, Andazola gathered a team-high 13 digs, while Olsen added 9 digs and Stanton tallied 4 blocks.

 

The Leopards were led by sophomore middle hitter Julie Bruton's (Montgomery, Texas) 8 kills. Wentworth got 20 assists from senior setter Courtney Zink (East Falmouth, Mass.). Rookie outside hitter Julie Rahilly (Nashua, N.H.) led the Leopard defense with 12 digs in the backrow.

 

Emmanuel will play again at home on Thursday night (9/17). The Saints will host the Colonials of Western Connecticut State University in a 7pm start. Wentworth is also back in action on Thursday, when the Leopards host UMass Boston at 7pm.
