Wentworth Drops Final Two Matches

BOSTON, Mass. – Wentworth's women's volleyball team saw the 2009 season come to a close as the Leopards dropped its final two matches of the year.  Wentworth was defeated by Regis, 3-0, in a match that determined the number seed in The Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament, before falling, 3-1, to Western New England.

 

The first set against Regis saw a back and forth affair with the Pride edging the Leopards, 26-24.  Regis would sieze momentum and take the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-14.  Sophomore Julie Bruton (Montgomery, Texas) had 11 kills in the match, while senior Courtney Zink (East Falmouth, Mass.) had 17 assists.  Freshman Nicole Wetherbee (Pembroke, Mass.) had eight digs.

 

Western New England jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the final match by taking the first set, 25-14, and claiming the second set, 25-13.  Wentworth battled back to take a 30-28 win in the third set, but the Golden Bears finished out the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.  Bruton had 14 kills and 10 digs, junior Jen Giudice (Central Valley, N.Y.) had seven kills and four digs, freshman Rebecca Williams (Brockton, Mass.) had eight digs, and Zink closed out her career with a 24-assist performance.

 

The Leopards finish the season with a 4-25 (2-8) record.
