Women's Soccer Downs Eastern Nazarene for 10th Straight Win

QUINCY, Mass. – Three different players scored goals to help the Wentworth Institute of Technology women's soccer team win a program record 10th straight game as the Leopards closed out the regular season with a 3-1 win over Eastern Nazarene in a Commonwealth Coast Conference contest played at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

With the win the Leopards tie a single-season program record with 15 wins, improving to 15-2-1, and will host a CCC Quarterfinal game on Saturday (Oct. 31) against an opponent to be determined on Wednesday afternoon. The Lions slip to 5-8-3 (2-5-2) and will be the number eight seed in the CCC Tournament.

Sophomore Ali Leach (Stowe, Vt.) gave the visitors an early lead when she headed in a corner kick from junior Mary Annon (Concord, N.H.) at the 5:03 mark.

Nearly 12 minutes later Wentworth increased its lead to 2-0 when sophomore Heather MacDougall (Exeter, N.H.) booted the ball ahead to the penalty area which bounced through traffic into the path of junior Mykaela Scarpace (Marlborough, Conn.) who fired a shot into the back of the net for her fifth marker of the year.

Both teams would trade shots over the next few possessions with Wentworth ending the 45-minute period with 11 shots compared to Eastern Nazarene's two attempts.

Eastern Nazarene cut the deficit midway through the second half as junior Katherine Lawrence (Marlborough, Conn.) recorded her eighth goal of the season by firing a shot on the right side that landed in the Wentworth net at 59:09. Junior Kiara Ketchuck (Taunton, Mass.) and sophomore Kelly Couite (West Bridgewater, Mass.) assisted Lawrence on the goal.

The Leopards put the game on ice in the 87th minute when junior Morgan Miller (Schenectady, N.Y.) headed in a feed from freshman Gwen Harvey (Doylestown, Pa.) to give Wentworth a 3-1 lead.

Wentworth concluded the match outshooting the Lions, 20-4, while recording four corner kicks. Eastern Nazarene registered just one corner in the opening stanza. Freshmen Christie Fleming (Braintree, Mass.) and Micaela Robinson (Goshen, N.Y.) each appeared in net for one half, while collaborating for a pair of stops. Senior Kristen Farley (Westminster, Mass.) finished the contest with five saves.
