Men's Tennis Doubles up Salve Regina for Second Straight Win

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Winning two of three doubles flights and three of four completed singles flights, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team picked up its second straight win as the Leopards (3-4, 2-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference) doubled up Salve Regina (0-10, 0-3), 6-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth claimed the first point of the day as freshman Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) and graduate student Harrison Maki (Rutland, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-4 win over the tandem of junior Samuel Johnson (Newington, Conn.) and senior Riley Kehoe (Wilder, Vt.). Wentworth took a 2-0 lead when senior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) teamed with sophomore Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) for an 8-7 (7-5) win at No. 1 over freshman Sam Middleton (Lake Grove, N.Y.) and freshman Alex Colon (Brielle, N.J.).
  • Salve Regina cut the lead to 2-1 when sophomore Jack Cooper (Sandwich, Mass.) and freshman Raimundo Bascuman (Lo Barnechea, Chile) defeated junior Owen Conlon (Cataumet, Mass.) and senior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.), 8-6.
  • Gallegos defeated Colon, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 1 to put the hosts on top, 3-1. Salomon followed with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Middleton at No. 1 to put the Black & Gold on the brink of a win.
  • The Seahawks made it a 4-2 match when Kehoe bested Maki, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, at No. 4 to make it 4-2, however, Marwaha picked up an 0-6, 6-4, 6-4 win over Bascunan at No. 3 to clinch the match for Wentworth.
  • Ferro defeated graduate student Alexander Azary (Shelton, Conn.), 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 and Johnson was a 6-4, 5-7, 6-3 winner over junior Malo Legouin (Nanterre, France) at No. 5.
