Men's Tennis Wraps up Regular Season

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team closed out the regular season on Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 loss to Roger Williams in Commonwealth Coast Conference play.

With the win the Hawks improve to 14-2 overall and finish second in CCC play with a 7-1 record. The Leopards see their regular season end with a 6-8 overall mark and a 5-3 record in conference matches. The 5-3 record for the Black & Gold will either put them in a tie for third in the CCC standings or place them fourth and Wentworth is locked in as the No. 4 seed in the CCC Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In doubles play, freshman Matt Glassman (West Hartford, Conn.) teamed up with senior Tyler Cain (Montpelier, Vt.) for an 8-0 win over Wentworth junior Kevin Shields (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Aidan Gordon (Douglas, Mass.). No. 2 saw junior Ryan Schuck (Glastonbury, Conn.) team with freshman Johnny Baldyga (Simsbury, Conn.) for an 8-1 win over sophomore Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and junior Malo Legouin (Nanterre, France). Junior Jon Trevethan (Berlin, Conn.) and senior Dan Tocco (East Quogue, N.Y.) were 8-1 winners over senior Kevin Salomon (West Newton, Mass.) and freshman Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) at No. 1.
  • Schuk defeated Legouin, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4 to make it 4-0 before senior Arlex Correa (Lynnfield, Mass.) clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-0 win over junior Owen Conlon (Cautamet, Mass.) at No. 6.
  • Baldyga was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over senior Sam Ferro at No. 5, Tocco defeated Gallegos, 6-3, 6-2, at No. 2, Trevethan was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over Salomon at No. 1, and Glassman picked up a 6-2, 7-6 (7-2) win over Marwaha at No. 3.

  • Wentworth will host a CCC Tournament match against an opponent to be determined on Saturday, April 30, at the Daly Field Courts in Brighton.
