Men's Tennis Battles Nichols in CCC Semifinals

DUDLEY, Mass. – Freshman Jose Siles (Lima, Peru) picked up a win at No. 5 singles to clinch the match as the Nichols College men's tennis team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-1, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference semifinal match.

With the win the top-seeded Bison improve to 15-5 while the fourth seeded Leopards, making their second straight appearance in at least the semifinal round, sees their season end with a 7-9 mark.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Nichols picked up the first two points of the match with 8-0 wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles. At No. 3, freshman Kern Moritz (Herzogenrath, Germany) and sophomore Caio Dieckmann (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) defeated senior Sam Ferro (Whitman, Mass.) and junior Malo Legouin (Nanterre, France) while, at No. 2, freshman Adrian Toderascu (Chisinau, Moldova) and sophomore Steven Kuang (Guangzhou, China) defeated freshman Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) and graduate student Sam Ferro (Rutland, Mass.).
  • Wentworth picked up a point at No. 1 as senior Kevin Salomon (West Newtown, Mass.) and sophomore Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) were 8-5 winners over freshman Giacomo Ghitti (Brescia, Italy) and freshman Santiago Perez (Alicante, Spain).
  • Toderascu put the hosts ahead, 3-1, with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Marwaha at No. 3 singles, while graduate student Sam Kluger (Nashua, N.H.) followed with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Ferro at No. 6. Siles was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Legouin at No. 5.
