#1 Men's Volleyball Breezes through Dean in GNAC Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Freshman Jeremy Macek (Pittsford, N.Y.) paced the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (7-0, 1-0 GNAC) with a match-high 17 kills and a .789 hitting percentage as the Black & Gold swept the Dean Bulldogs (1-4, 0-2 GNAC) in their conference opener Thursday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth set out to a 13-4 advantage in the first set, marked with kills by Macek, sophomore Gabe Tucker (East Greenbush, N.Y.), junior Alek Reymond (Chittenango, N.Y.), freshman Mehki Burns (Las Vegas, Nev.), and freshman Thomas Smith (Mechanicsburg, Pa.). Two kills by Macek continued the lead to 17-5 before kills by Tucker, Reymond, Burns, and senior Anthony Krzykowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) gave the hosts a 25-12 set win.
  • Two service aces by Smith helped Wentworth score the first six points of the second set. After the Bulldogs scored four straight of their own, the Leopards grabbed 11 of the next 13 points, including kills by Burns, Macek, and senior Nick Cebula (West Springfield, Mass.), to take a 17-6 lead. Four straight kills by Macek later in the set paced Wentworth to a 25-9 set win.
  • A kill and service ace by Macek helped the Leopards to a 6-1 lead in the third set before kills by Smith, Reymond, and Burns pushed the lead to 10-3. Kills by Macek and Burns continued the advantage to 15-8 before kills by Burns and sophomore Brayden Green (Lake Worth, Fla.) pushed the lead to 20-10. Kills by Macek and Smith helped the Leopards take a 25-13 set win and a 3-0 conference match win.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards are 5-0 all-time against the Bulldogs.
