BOSTON, Mass. – Senior Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) of the top-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (12-0, 3-0 GNAC) became the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach the 1,000 career kills milestone Thursday night in a four-set triumph against conference rival Lasell (5-6, 1-1 GNAC).

LaBouliere's eighth kill of the night was enough to hit the mark, and the senior added 15 more to total 23 in the Leopards' record-breaking twelfth straight win to begin the 2024 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The two teams swapped scores to open the first set, with Wentworth taking a 5-3 lead on a kill by sophomore Benjamin Moughon (Mercer Island, Wash.). A kill by LaBouliere continued the lead to 7-4 before a kill by freshman Conner Foxwell (Harrisburg, Pa.) pushed the lead to 11-6. Lasell battled back, taking a 14-13 edge, before kills by Moughon, LaBouliere, and senior Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.) gave Wentworth the lead back at 19-16. The Lasers kept it tight, but three kills by Moughon pushed the Leopards to a 25-21 set win.
  • The two teams traded scores to begin the second set, with Wentworth stretching out to a 10-6 lead on a service ace by junior Ryan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.). Wentworth pushed the lead to 14-11 on a kill by LaBouliere before Lasell rallied back, taking a 16-14 lead. Behind 19-16, two kills by LaBouliere and another by Waga tied the score at 19 aside, but Lasell never surrendered the tight lead the rest of the way, grabbing a 25-23 set win to tie the match at one-all.
  • Both teams swapped scores to open the third set, with the Leopards pulling away from a 7-7 tie to a 9-7 lead on a kill by LaBouliere and Roller service ace. A kill by Foxwell continued the lead to 15-14 before two kills by junior Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio) marked an 18-16 set. Two kills from LaBouliere pushed the lead to 23-20 before a final kill for the senior marked a 25-23 set win.
  • Again, the two teams traded scores to open the set, with Wentworth separating themselves at 8-5 on a kill by Etter. Kills by LaBouliere and Waga pushed the lead to 12-9. Lasell battled back, knotting the score at 15 aside, before a kill by LaBouliere marked a 16-15 set. Lasell took a 20-18 lead later, before surrendering three straight points to go behind 21-20. Two kills by Etter helped Wentworth hold their lead and hold off the Lasers for a 25-21 set win.
