Jack, Roller Guide #1 Men's Volleyball over Emerson

BOSTON, Mass. – Paced by a career-high seven service aces by senior Tyler Jack (San Jose, Calif.) and a match-high 16 kills by junior Ryan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.), the top-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (25-1, 11-1 GNAC) got back in the win column in conference play Saturday morning, sweeping Emerson (4-14, 2-8 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • After the Lions crept out to a 6-3 lead in the first set, three kills by Roller helped rally Wentworth to a 10-6 lead. A kill by Jack continued the lead to 13-8 before a finish by Roller and two service aces by Jack carried the Leopards to a 23-15 advantage. A kill by junior Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio) helped Wentworth grab a 25-17 set win.
  • The Lions got out to a 4-1 advantage in the second set before two kills by Roller helped Wentworth rally to an eventual 12-8 lead. Two kills by Jack pushed the lead to 17-13 before another by Etter marked a 21-17 score. A kill by Jack capped a 25-21 set win for the Black & Gold.
  • The two team swapped points to start the third set before the Leopards pulled away with a 12-6 advantage with kills by Roller, Jack, and Etter. Back-to-back kills by Jack pushed the lead to 17-10 before four service aces by Jack helped the Leopards ease to a 25-11 set win.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards own the all-time series, 27-2.
