#1 Men's Volleyball Sinks Dean, Elms in GNAC Tri-Match

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Led by 29 kills through two matches from sophomore Mason Andrade (North Kingstown, R.I.), the top-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (24-0, 10-0 GNAC) continued their breeze through the conference slate, pushing past Dean and Elms in a conference tri-match Saturday.

MATCH ONE: WENTWORTH 3, DEAN 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards opened the first set with an 8-1 lead, with two kills apiece from sophomores Mason Andrade (North Kingstown, R.I.) and Gabe Tucker (East Greenbush, N.Y.). Another kill by Andrade paired with a finish by sophomore Matt Beaudry (Charlestown, R.I.) pushed the lead to 13-5 before a kill by freshman Jeremy Macek (Pittsford, N.Y.) capped another run for the Leopards, marking a 20-10 lead, before a kill by Andrade capped a 25-11 set win.
  • Kills by Beaudry and Macek helped Wentworth out to a 5-2 lead in the second set before four kills by Andrade extended the lead to an 11-7 score. Two kills by Andrade helped push the advantage to 17-11 before a string of kills by Beaudry, Andrade, Tucker, and Macek clinched the Black & Gold a 25-15 set win.
  • A slew of kills from a variety of contributors gave Wentworth a commanding 15-4 advantage in the third set before three service aces by senior Anthony Krzykowski (Feeding Hills, Mass.) paced the Leopards to a 25-9 set win.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Black & Gold are a perfect 6-0 versus Dean all-time.

MATCH TWO: WENTWORTH 3, ELMS 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • A kill by junior Ryan Roller (West Hartford, Conn.) gave Wentworth a 5-3 lead in the first set before another helped push the lead to 9-5. A kill by Andrade carried the lead to 15-10 before kills by Andrade, Roller, junior Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio), and sophomore Matthew Zegowitz (Westford, Mass.) helped the Leopards to a 25-20 set win.
  • Wentworth set out to a 4-0 advantage in the second frame before the two teams traded scores, with Elms taking a 9-8 edge before a two kills by Roller helped the Leopards to a 12-9 lead. A kill by Zegowitz marked a 17-13 lead before two service aces by Roller and another by Etter helped the Black & Gold to a 25-15 set win.
  • The two teams swapped scores to open the third frame, with the Blazers taking a 12-8 lead before five kills by Andrade helped Wentworth rally to take a 17-12 advantage. Two kills by Roller continued the lead to 21-18 before a kill by Andrade and service ace by Krzykowski clinched a 25-20 set win.

SERIES NOTES:

  • The Leopards own the all-time series, 20-4.
