Men's Soccer Faces Norwich in First Road Contest

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – The Norwich University men's soccer team won its season opener as the Cadets defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 5-0, on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Norwich struck first on a goal with a goal coming just over the midway point of the first half as sophomore Jami Lashua (Williston, Vt.) scored. Just under seven minutes later the Cadets increased their lead to 2-0 on a goal from senior Amerle Nemeye (Burlington, Vt.).
  • At the 55:07 mark, the hosts pushed their lead to 3-0 on a goal from freshman Mamadi Jiana (Westfield, Mass.). Sixteen seconds later junior Joseph Thongsythavong (Salem, Mass.), who assisted on Jiana's goal, made it a 4-0 game. Senior Brayan Ramirez (Scottsdale, Ariz.) rounded out the scoring with a goal at 79:55.
  • Sophomore Liam Nasr (Chester, N.H.) made his collegiate debut for Wentworth, making seven saves in 64:27. Junior Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) also made his collegiate debut, making one save in 25:33.

THE SERIES:

  • Today marked the seventh all-time meeting between the two teams with Norwich holding a 4-3 series advantage.
