HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The teams traded goals on each squad's first shot of the game, as Wentworth took a 1-0 lead 1:33 into the contest when senior TJ Prouty (Glendora, Calif.) scored from classmates Erik Treble (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) and Jomar Martins (Braintree, Mass.). Martins took a throw in from the far side, where Tremble flicked a low header to Prouty, whose shot went inside the right post.
  • Curry wasted little time evening the score when Martins scored from junior Ryan Brady (Weymouth, Mass.). Brady sent a pass towards the middle of the box where Martins put a shot inside the left post.
  • Both teams had chances throughout the remainder of the first half, with the Black & Gold holding a 6-5 shot advantage at the break. Curry had a 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
  • In the 53rd minute, senior Alex Moore (Salem, Conn.) nearly put the Leopards ahead, but his shot just missed to the left of the near post. In the 77th minute, senior John Dauphin (Yorba Linda, Calif.) served a corner kick towards the box. Treble flicked a header towards the net, however, the ball hit the crossbar, keeping the game tied.
  • Senior Robbie West (Weymouth, Mass.) turned aside a Curry go-ahead bid in the 79th minute of play when he made a save from deep along the far side.
  • With 6:08 left, Martins gave the hosts a 2-1 lead when he was fed a pass from Brady and beat West in front.
  • West and junior Kyle Tremblay (Methuen, Mass.) each made four saves. Wentworth had an 18-12 shot advantage – including a 12-7 advantage in the second half – while Curry had a 7-5 edge in corner kicks.

THE SERIES:

  • Today marked the 34th all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth holds a 22-10-2 series advantage. The win was the first for the Colonels in the last nine meetings, snapping a four-game losing and eight-game winless streak.
