HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • UMass Boston wasted little time getting on the board, scoring on the first shot of the contest. Senior Gerardo Castaneda (Providence, R.I.) lofted a long pass from beyond midfield towards the box where classmate Josh Madden (Milton, Mass.) put a shot past a diving junior Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) at 2:19.
  • Wentworth nearly tied the game in the 21st minute when senior Jomar Martins (Braintree, Mass.) rifled a shot towards the net, however, freshman JJ Devine (Halifax, Mass.) made a diving stop to punch the ball out of bounds.
  • The Beacons took a 2-0 lead at the 26:15 mark when junior Josh DeAlmeida (Revere, Mass.) gained possession towards the top of the box and slid a pass to senior Cam Pattison (Cohasset, Mass.), who put a shot inside the right post.
  • The Leopards pulled within one at the 32:24 mark. Senior Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.) sent a pass across from right to left junior Paolo Ruggeri (Canton, Mass.) put home a shot to the left side.
  • Sophomore Jacob Dukeshire (Nashua, N.H.) flicked a header from close range in the 51st minute. Junior Qasim El-Ashkar (Salem, Mass.) stepped in front and came up with the save, keeping the tying goal off the board. The Leopards continued to mount pressure, putting a pair of shots on net in a seven-minute span.
  • A Quintero save in the 73rd minute led to a rebound and an opening along the left side. However, the second-chance bid by senior Yuran Texeira (Praia, Cape Verde) was cleared out by a Wentworth back line defender, keeping it a one-goal game.

THE SERIES:

  • Tonight marked the seventh all-time meeting between the two teams. UMass Boston is 7-0 all-time against Wentworth.
