Men's Soccer Notches First CCC Win with Shutout at UNE

BIDDEFORD, Maine. – Senior Nathan Gosselin (Hudson, N.H.) scored a pair of goals and senior Alex Moore (Salem, Conn.) added a pair of assists as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's soccer team picked up its first Commonwealth Coast Conference victory with a 5-0 win over the University of New England.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards had a pair of shot attempts – both by Gosselin – in a span of 41 seconds less than three minutes into the contest. A Nor'Easter foul in the box led to a penalty kick for Wentworth where Gosselin stepped to the line and put home his sixth goal of the season at the 14:47 mark.
  • Wentworth held its one-goal lead until the 42:16 mark when graduate student Juan Cedeno (North Andover, Mass.) took a pass Moore and put home a shot from right in front to make it 2-0.
  • The Black & Gold increased their lead to 3-0 at 50:22 when junior Augustin Edwin, Jr. (New Bedford, Mass.) assisted on sophomore Jacob Dukeshire's (Nashua, N.H.) goal to the lower left of the net.
  • Gosselin gave the Leopards a 4-0 lead when he connected on his second penalty kick of the contest at the 58:39 mark.
  • Edwin, Jr., rounded out Wentworth's scoring when he scored off assists from Moore and Cedeno at 84:15.
  • Wentworth had a 24-1 shot advantage while junior Louis Quintero (Boston, Mass.) needed to make just one save for the Leopards.

THE SERIES:

  • Today marked the 23rd all-time meeting between the two teams. Wentworth leads 16-3-4.
