Men's Soccer Blanks Salem State to Even Record at 2-2

BOSTON, MASS. – Sophomore forward Andrea Colmenares scored the first goal of his collegiate career, as the Wentworth men's soccer team picked up their second consecutive win, defeating Salem State University by a score of 2-0 Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards got on the board in the ninth minute, when a miscommunication by Salem State led to an own goal to give the home team a 1-0 lead.
  • Wentworth goalkeeper Louis Quintero made two saves in the first half, and the Leopards turned aside four corner kick opportunities by the Vikings to keep the score at 1-0 heading into the intermission.
  • Looking to find the tying goal, Salem State put up eight shot attempts in the second half, but were not able to beat Quintero, who made four total saves on the day.
  • Colmenares ripped a shot from the right side of the box that beat Viking goalkeeper Matt Hauntsman in the 78th minute to extend the lead to 2-0, with Costa picking up his first career assist.

THE SERIES:

  • This was the third ever meeting between the two programs, with Wentworth now holding a 2-1 series advantage.

NEXT UP:

  • The Leopards now head back on the road, as they travel to Bridgewater State University Saturday, Sept. 11 to take on the Bears, with game time scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
