Men's Volleyball Sweeps Regis on the Road

WESTON, Mass. – The trio of senior Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.), sophomore Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio), and junior Tyler Jack (San Jose, Calif.) combined for 29 of the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team's 38 kills while the team swept Regis in conference action Thursday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The match started with points traded, with the Leopards tying the score at two on a kill by senior Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.). The Pride then secured eight of the next ten points to give themselves a 10-4 lead. Down 11-5, the Leopards got a kill from Oshman to make the score 11-6. After the Pride secured another point, sophomore Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio) notched his first and second kills of the night en route to the Black & Gold cutting the deficit to 12-9. Behind 14-11, the Leopards got a kill from senior Colin Stockton (Hummelstown, Pa.) to put the score at 14-12. Down 16-14, the Leopards scored on a kill from senior Alex McLane (Columbus, Ohio) to cut the deficit to one. After the Leopards tied the score at 16-all on an Etter block, the visitors separated themselves in a 22-18 score. Ahead 23-19, the Leopards got two kills from Oshman in the final five points of the set, giving Wentworth a 25-22 set win and a 1-0 match win.
  • The second set started in similar fashion, with the Leopards down 2-1 until a kill by Oshman tied the score at two. The Pride raced out to a 6-3 advantage until a kill from junior Tyler Jack (San Jose, Calif.) cut the deficit to two. The Pride extended their lead by four to a 10-6 advantage. Down 11-9, the Leopards scored on another kill by Jack. Following the score, the Leopards tied the score at 11-all. After taking a 13-12 lead, Jack struck again to bring the Leopards' lead to 14-12. After a Pride score, Jack notched another kill to put the score at 15-13. Ahead 17-16, Wentworth got a kill from sophomore Alek Reymond (Chittenango, N.Y.) to bring their lead back to two. Wentworth worked up to a 22-17 lead thanks to two consecutive Oshman kills before an error for the home team gave Wentworth an eventual 25-19 set win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Errors filled the first points of the third set until the Leopards shot out to a 9-4 lead thanks to kills from Jack and Etter. Another Etter kill kept Wentworth's lead at six at a 11-5 score. After the Pride earned a point, Reymond nailed another kill for the Leopards, keeping the lead at 12-6. Another kill by Reymond kept the Leopards' lead intact at 14-8. Consecutive kills by Jack and Oshman continued Wentworth's lead to 16-10. The Leopards continued to build their lead, while a kill by Stockton mounted the advantage at a 21-13 score. After a slew of errors, a kill by Reymond secured Wentworth a 25-16 set win, marking a 3-0 match win.

 

THE SERIES:

  • Tonight marked the 17th meeting between the two teams, with Wentworth's record against Regis all-time unblemished at 17-0.
