LaBouliere Leads Men's Volleyball Past Endicott

BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) struck 20 kills and led the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team to a 3-1 victory over the Endicott Gulls in non-conference action Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Leopards began the match with a 10-2 lead thanks to a slew of errors for the Gulls and a handful of kills by LaBouliere, freshman Matthew Zegowitz (Westford, Mass.), freshman Nicolai Bell (Moraga, Calif.), and senior Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.). The hosts continued their lead to 16-6 with a kill from sophomore Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio). Etter notched another kill later in the set to mark a 17-8 score. A kill by LaBouliere carried the Leopards' lead to a 22-13 lead before a kill by Bell helped the team grab a 25-15 set win.
  • The Gulls held a three-point lead to begin the second set, marking a 5-2 score and later a 9-6 tally. A kill from freshman Brayden Green (Lake Worth, Calif.) helped cut the deficit to 10-7 after being down 10-6. Wentworth grabbed a two-point lead at a 12-all tie with two kills from LaBouliere. The Gulls fought back to tie at 15-15 before the Leopards snagged a lead off of kills by Etter and Oshman. Ahead 24-20, the Leopards notched a 25-20 set win off of a LaBouliere kill, making the match score 2-0.
  • The two teams traded points to start the third set until the Gulls separated themselves with a 6-2 lead. Down 11-6, and Oshman kill helped cut the deficit to four again. Battling back and forth, a kill by LaBouliere gave the Leopards a 16-15 lead. The Gulls held a 23-20 lead after traded points before the score with tied at 24 apiece off of an errors. After a LaBouliere kill put the Leopards ahead 25-24, a series of errors gave the Gulls a 27-25 set win, cutting their match deficit to 2-1.
  • The two teams traded points to start the fourth set until a kill by Zegowitz after an Oshman kill gave Wentworth an 11-8 lead. A Zegowitz kill notched a 13-9 lead later. Kills by LaBouliere (16-12) and Green (17-13) helped keep the Leopards lead at four. LaBouliere and Etter notched kills in the final going before Wentworth earned a 25-18 set win, giving themselves a 3-1 win over the Gulls.
