NASHUA, N.H. – Propped by a sweep over Regis (6-11, 1-5 GNAC) and a four-set win against Rivier (10-9, 6-2 GNAC), the fourteenth-ranked Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team (15-6, 9-0 GNAC) stayed undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play while pushing their current win streak to 11 matches following a tri-match against their GNAC foes on Saturday.

MATCH ONE: WENTWORTH 3, REGIS 0

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wentworth set out to a 4-1 advantage in the first set with kills coming from junior Tyler Jack (San Jose, Calif.) and sophomore Alek Reymond (Chittenango, N.Y.). The Leopards' lead stretched to 11-8 off of a kill by junior Jacob Waga (East Northport, N.Y.). Errors on the Pride sandwiched a service ace by Waga, eventually giving the Leopards a 25-18 set win and a 1-0 match lead.
  • The Black & Gold similarly got off to a hot start in the second set, holding a 6-1 lead that included kills from senior Hunter Oshman (Pennington, N.J.) and sophomore Sam Etter (Massillon, Ohio). Two kills by Etter helped the Leopards carry their lead to 11-4 and eventually 13-5. Another Etter kill brought the Leopards' lead to 16-8. A kill by senior Tristan McDonough (Shelton, Conn.) and two kills by freshman Benjamin Moughon (Mercer Island, Wash.) helped Wentworth clinch a 25-16 second set win.
  • Two kills by sophomore Dave Arellanes (North Aurora, Ill.) pushed the Leopards to a 5-0 lead early in the third set. Two kills by Reymond brought Wentworth's lead to 12-4 and eventually 13-5 before an Arellanes kill brought the lead to 16-6. Errors for the Pride followed kills by Moughon, Waga, and sophomore Nick Cebula (West Springfield, Mass.), earning the Leopards a 25-11 set win and a match sweep.

MATCH TWO: WENTWORTH 3, RIVIER 1

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Behind 3-2 in the first set, an Etter kill tied the score at three-all. The two teams swapped points, working up to a 15-13 score in favor of the Raiders, until two kills from junior Jacob LaBouliere (Pipersville, Pa.) tied the score at 15 apiece. The two teams traded points to a 22-20 score, with Wentworth notching the 20th point on an Etter kill just before the Raiders claimed a 25-20 set win and a 1-0 match lead.
  • Wentworth drove out to a 5-2 lead in the second set before two LaBouliere kills notched the Leopards with an 8-5 lead. Another LaBouliere kill brought the Leopards' lead to 10-6 before an Oshman kill continued the lead to 14-8. The Leopards distanced themselves from the Raiders in the final going of the set, as kills from LaBouliere and Oshman earned the Leopards a 25-15 set win, tying the match at 1-1.
  • The two teams traded points to start the third set until a string of LaBouliere kills gave the Leopards a 10-5 advantage. After a series of errors for the Raiders, Oshman and Etter kills brought the Leopards' lead to 17-8. Oshman claimed kills at an 18-10 score and later a 19-13 advantage before a kill by LaBouliere marked a 21-14 score. Errors plagued the Raiders before an Oshman kill continued the Leopards' lead to 17-8.
