Men's Volleyball Draws St. John Fisher in NCAA Tournament

NCAA Announcement | NCAA Bracket

BOSTON, Mass. – For the third straight season and fifth time since 2016, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's volleyball team will compete in the NCAA Division III Men's Volleyball Tournament, as the selections were announced Monday morning.

The Leopards (26-7) were one of 10 conferences to punch their ticket via an automatic bid (Pool A), after winning the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Championship, 3-1, over Lasell on Saturday. The field of 16 is rounded out by two Pool B institutions and four Pool C institutions. Pool B consists of independents and members whose conference do not meet automatic qualification requirements, while Pool C consists of institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not the conference champion and any remaining Pool B teams.

Wentworth's tournament journey will begin on Friday, April 21, as the Leopards will face St. John Fisher (24-7) in the first round of the Hoboken Regional, which is being played at Stevens Institute of Technology. The other side of the regional bracket consists of Geneva (19-14) facing the host Ducks (31-3). The two winners from Friday will square off on Saturday for the right to go to the national semifinals and finals on April 28 and 30, in Owings Mills, Md. Should the Leopards win on Friday, it would either be the fifth all-time (and second this season) meeting against Stevens or the first all-time meeting against Geneva.

As of the April 11 AVCA Division III Men's Top 15 Poll, both the Leopards and Cardinals are ranked, coming in at No. 12 and No. 10, respectively. This is the second straight season the two teams have met in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, with Wentworth winning, 3-0, on April 15, 2022, at Rutgers-Newark. This is also the second time this season the two teams will meet, as they also faced each other on January 20 at the SUNY Poly Wildcat Invitational where St. John Fisher was a 3-2 winner. The all-time series is tied, 2-2.

Match times and broadcast and ticket information will be provided once it is available.
