Men's Tennis Falls at Salem State

SALEM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team (1-1) dropped a 7-2 decision at Salem State (1-0) Friday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Salem State took a 1-0 lead after a win at No. 2 doubles as graduate student Roni Bazile (Brockton, Mass.) and senior Cory Cherico (Winthrop, Mass.) posted an 8-4 win over sophomore Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Thomas Kot (Farmington, Conn.).
  • Wentworth tied the match at 1-all when senior Owen Conlon (Cataumet, Mass.) teamed with freshman James Weete (Dover, N.H.) for an 8-7 (7-5) win over junior Parker Andreoli (Windham, N.H.) and junior Kevin Merino-Rivas (Billerica, Mass.). However, the Vikings took a 2-1 lead after doubles play when graduate student Andrew Muttiah (Colombo, Sri Lanka) and freshman Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) were 8-7 (7-5) winners over junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterey, Mexico) and freshman Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.).
  • Andreoli defeated Conlon at No. 6 singles, 6-0, 6-3, and Cherico was a 6-0, 6-3 winner over Kot at No. 4 to make it 4-1. Muttiah was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Gallegos at No. 1 to clinch the match for the hosts.
  • Graziani defeated Weete, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 5 before Marwaha was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Wilkins at No. 2. Bazile finished the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win over Doraci.

  • Wentworth will resume its schedule in March with a full slate of matches.
