Men's Tennis Squares off Against Wittenberg

ORLANDO, Fla. – Paced by a sweep of doubles play, the Wittenberg University men's tennis team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology, 9-0, in non-conference action Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Wittenberg took a 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No.2 doubles as senior John DeVito (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and junior Kyle Fout (Gahanna, Ohio) defeated senior Kevin Shields (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterey, Mexico). The Tigers increased their lead to 2-0 with an 8-1 win at No. 1 as senior Joe Patton (Grantham, United Kingdom) and senior Jake Stockhausen (Brookfield, Wisc.) defeated sophomore Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Rene Rodriguez (Doral, Fla.). Sophomore Ethan Libby (Loveland, Ohio) teamed with sophomore Mark Trinka (Oak Park, Ill.) to defeat freshmen Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.) and Thomas Kot (Farmington, Conn.).
  • Singles play saw Stockhausen defeat Marwaha, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 2 singles before Trinka clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Kot at No. 5.
  • Libby was a 6-1, 6-0 winner over Doraci at No. 4, Fout defeated senior Aidan Gordon (Douglas, Mass.), 6-3, 6-0 and DeVito was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Rodriguez. At No. 1, Gallegos took the first set over Patton, 6-4, before Patton battled back to take a 7-6 (7-0) win in the second set. Patton prevailed in the tiebreaking set, 10-4.
