Men's Tennis Wraps up Weekend Play Against Nichols

WESTON, Mass. – Playing its third match in as many days, the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team was defeated by Nichols, 9-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference play Sunday afternoon With the win the Bison improve to 3-7 overall and 1-0 in league play while the Leopards fall to 2-9 (0-2).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Santiago Perez (Alicante, Spain) teamed with Caio Dieckmann (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) to give Nichols a 1-0 lead with an 8-3 win over senior Kevin Shields (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) at No. 2 doubles. Junior Trevor Schwartzmann (Dartmouth, Mass.) and freshman Ludwig Schlatzer (Bremen, Germany) gave the Bison a 2-0 lead with an 8-3 win over freshmen Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.) and Thomas Kot (Farmington, Conn.) at No. 3. Freshman Leon Zeis (Wuppertal, Germany) and freshman Frederik Bertrams (Waldbrol, Germany) bested junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and freshman Rene Rodriguez (Doral, Fla.), 8-5, at No. 1 to complete the doubles sweep.
  • Singles play saw sophomore Enzo Matos Balleux (Weimar, Germany) defeat senior Owne Conlon (Cataument, Mass.), 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6, before freshman Yannick  De Vet (Walchwill, Switzerland) clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kot at No. 5.
  • Zeis was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Marwaha at No. 2, Dieckerman defeated Doraci, 6-2, 6-3, at No. 4, Bertrams was a 6-2, 6-0 winner over Rodriguez at No. 3, and Schwartzmann defeated Gallegos, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 1.
