Men's Tennis Doubled up by Rhode Island College

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and freshman Rene Rodriguez (Doral, Fla.) each won singles matches and combined to win in doubles as the Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team (1-7) opened the northern portion of its spring schedule with a 6-3 loss at Rhode Island College (2-2),

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Rhode Island College took a 1-0 lead when the doubles tandem of sophomore Zach Siemmao (Wakefield, R.I.) and senior Peter Pond (Providence, R.I.) picked up an 8-2 win at No. 3 over senior Owen Conlon (Cataumet, Mass.) and freshman Thomas Kot (Natick, Mass.). Wentworth evened the match at 1-all when Gallegos and Rodriguez teamed up for an 8-5 win over junior Josh Brien (Johnston, R.I.) and junior Jack Cadden (Mattapoisett, Mass.) at No. 1. The Anchormen took a 2-1 lead with an 8-2 win at No. 2 as sophomore Noah Morin (Smithfield, R.I.) and sophomore Elijah Gouin (Glocester, R.I.) defeated sophomore Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.).
  • Siemmao gave the hosts a 3-1 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 5 singles before Morin made it 4-2 when he defeated Marwaha at No. 2, 6-1, 6-2. Sophomore Andrew Fanning (Greenville, R.I.) clinched the match for Rhode Island College with a 6-2, 6-3 win over James Weete (Dover, N.H.).
  • Rodriguez was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Cadden at No. 3 before Gouin was a 6-4, 7-5 winner over Doraci at No. 4. Gallegos defeated Brien, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 1.

  • With the conference opener against Nichols postponed on Saturday, the Leopards travel to Bridgewater State on March 23.
