Endicott Defeats Men's Tennis in Conference Opener

NATICK, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology men's tennis team dropped its Commonwealth Coast Conference opening match, 8-1, to Endicott Saturday afternoon. With the win the Gulls improve to 2-6 (1-0) while the Leopards fall to 2-8 (0-1).

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Sophomore Hudson De Risi (Cold Spring Harbor, N.Y.) and freshman Aaron Terpko (Shrewsbury, Mass.) gave Endicott a 1-0 lead with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles over senior Aidan Gordon (Douglas, Mass.) and sophomore Pranav Marwaha (Nashua, N.H.). The Gulls extended their lead to 2-0 when junior Julian Richtarich (Naples, Fla.) teamed with freshman Conrad Kadel (Heidelberg, Germany) to defeat freshmen Eric Doraci (Natick, Mass.) and Thomas Kot (Farmington, Conn.) at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Senior Brennan Nick (Tolland, Conn.) and freshman Antonio Marsallo (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) teamed up to give Endicott a 3-0 lead after doubles with an 8-4 win over junior Daniel Gallegos (Monterrey, Mexico) and freshman Rene Rodriguez (Doral, Fla.).
  • Terpko extended the Gulls' lead to 4-0 when he defeated freshman James Weete (Dover, N.H.), 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. Sophomore Brayden Allen (North Kingstown, R.I.) clinched the match for the Gulls with a 6-2, 6-0 triumph over Kot at No. 6.
  • Richtarich defeated Doraci, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 4 before Wentworth picked up its lone point of the match. Gallegos dropped the first set to sophomore George Danes (Old Lyme, Conn.) before winning the second set, 6-4, and taking the tiebreaker, 10-3, at No. 1.
  • At No. 3, Rodriguez took set one over De Risi, 6-1, however, was defeated in the second set, 2-6, and 7-10 in the tiebreaker. Sophomore Oliver Pope (Dartmouth, Mass.) defeated Marwaha at No. 2, 6-4, 6-2.
